Air Travel Tips

If you are traveling to San Francisco via Airplane you should know that there are many nonstop trips entering San Francisco. If you are attending for business please allow for delays as the heavy fog usually causes many delays into the airport so allow plenty of time for those meetings. Taxis into downtown can run from $35 - $50 so be prepared to spend at least that much for a ride into the city if you haven ’t picked up a rental car.

By Bus

You can travel the Greyhound into San Francisco. There are no reservations and it is based off of a first come first serve basis. Smoking is not allowed and stops are frequent so be prepared for frequent stops on longer trips.

By Train

You can catch an Amtrak train into San Francisco. Amtrak offers many routes throughout California. Some of them offer very scenic routes throughout the state for a rather enjoyable trip. Once again Smoking is not allowed on the short trip trains. Long Trip trains do allow smoking but only at certain times. You should be able to find long trip trains throughout the USA to San Francisco.

Weather

San Francisco has varying weather but is most notable for its dense fog and cooler temperatures. While traveling to San Francisco pack at least a couple heavier side jackets just in case the temperatures drop on you. You would not want to be stuck without one.

Cable Car

Don’t miss out on the fun that is the San Francisco Cable Car. Cost runs about $5 one way. You just need to hop on at one of the designated areas and go. Payments are available at the many kiosks and exact change is not required. This is one of the best things about San Francisco.

By Bike

If you are interested in Riding around San Francisco there are many options for you, but be sure to find out the maps that help you avoid the cities notoriously steep hills. These can be found at the neighborhood bike shop or bike rental locations for a nominal fee.
